Israel: A Quick Visual

Ginger Journey fans, meet one of my best friends growing up, Ayelet.  She’s more of a sister at this point and it’s been a dream of mine since 7th grade to visit her family in Israel and the other place she calls home.

Our first full day, we spent the morning in Haifa at the Baha’i Gardens:

In the evening, we headed to Jerusalem to enjoy Shabbat dinner with Ayelet’s family:

The next day, we headed into the Old City of Jerusalem:

Ayelet’s grandmother not only showed us around the Old City and brought us to important historical sites like the Western Wall, but also introduced me to the best hummus place in Israel:

You can even buy some great touristy souvenirs, like a new yamaka:

And a quick stop at the Austrian Hospice rooftop to see an aerial view of the city:

At night, we headed out to a great area that was alive with people:

Fantastic music came from all around.  Including this beat boxing street performer asking for money to buy a puppy when he returns to the US in a week.  If you heard him, you’d donate.  He’s a real Matisyahu protege.

The following day, we headed to the Israeli Museum and the shouk.  It’s a little surreal to realize that there’s a giant apple just steps away from the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The shouk in Jerusalem was mouth watering for any food lover.  Much easier to stomach than China or India.  This one was filled with delicious dried fruits and nuts, baklava, and a pita factory!

Unlike China where they play “Beat the Landlord” in the afternoon, locals here enjoy a nice game of shesh besh:

Up next, we’ll be in Tel Aviv and Be’er Tuvia.  A special thanks goes to Ayelet’s Safta Rachel - Jerusalem’s very BEST tour guide and host.
